Reston, VA – Due to diminishing returns and increased competition, MetroAir will begin plans to close the Washington Dulles Hub. “The load factors on our Washington based flights aren’t what they were when we first moved to Washington,” said Matt Calsada, MetroAir Chief Executive Officer. The withdrawal from Washington Dulles will be a slow process. MetroAir will begin reducing flights into and out of Dulles effective immediately. The expected date for complete withdrawal from Washington Dulles is February 29, 2011.
When asked where MetroAir would be relocating it’s east coast hub to, Mr. Gesch, Chief Operating Officer said “At this time, an alternate market has not yet been finalized. I cannot go into any further details which would cause speculation as we seek to finalize negotiations with potential airport authorities.”
MetroAir Executives would not go into any further details relating the closure of Washington Dulles.
