MetroAir Awards and Badges

It has come to our attention that some pilots are unsure of how some of the MetroAir awards and badges work. We’ll take this opportunity to go a little bit more into depth so that everyone is on the same wavelength. If you ask a hub manager 6 months from now why you haven’t been given that new fancy award yet and they point you to this article to answer your question, don’t be surprised.

Pilot of the Month & Other Staff Distributed Awards
Awards that staff distribute directly are awards like pilot of the month, mentorship or outstanding photography.

For Pilot of the Month, staff convene during the monthly staff meeting and discuss potential recipients from each hub comparing the top contender’s achievements in the most recent month.

Career Awards
These awards (3 months, 6 months, etc.) are given from the time you were officially hired. If you were terminated or resigned and then rehired, your date of hire is reset. This award is distributed automatically by the system so there may be a 1 day delay between when you were thinking you should get the award and when you actually see it in your awards.

Flight Time & Type Ratings
Flight Time and Type Rating awards are based on MetroAir Flight Hours and does not include bonus or transfer hours. While we award your transfer hours at the completion of the mentorship program and award bonus hours for vatsim flights, they are only given to help a pilot advance the rank quicker and begin piloting new aircraft faster. While your hours on the website may say 500, you need to be cognizant of what this really means. To make the breakdown of hours into MetroAir flight hours, bonus hours and transfer hours, you can hover over the Hours on your pilot control panel. You should see a popup that breaks down the number into further detail. Awards for hours in a specific aircraft are similar in that you will only receive the award after piloting the plane for the full number of flight hours. This award is distributed automatically by the system so there may be a 1 day delay between when you were thinking you should get the award and when you actually see it in your awards.

PiRep Awards
PiRep awards are issues once you have the specified number of approved pireps. This award is distributed automatically by the system so there may be a 1 day delay between when you were thinking you should get the award and when you actually see it in your awards.

VATSIM Hour Awards
Awards based on VATSIM Hours are issued based on the amount of time our system tracks you online flying MetroAir flights. If for some reason the VATSIM data feed is not functional and does not track your flight, we cannot adjust the time for you. Sometimes the VATSIM data feed becomes non-functional. It’s easy to see when this happens because you will not be shown as flying on VATSIM on the MetroAir website or you’ll see no one on VATSIM if using VATSpy. To track your vatsim hours, you’ll need to make sure that you have entered your VATSIM ID on your pilot control panel and that your flights on the vatsim network use the proper MetroAir callsign. This award is distributed automatically by the system so there may be a 1 day delay between when you were thinking you should get the award and when you actually see it in your awards.

*Note: You’ll notice that all of the automatic awards may take up to a day to be distributed. If after that time period you still do not see it and you are sure that you should have a specific award after understanding the above criteria, then please do contact your hub manager who can determine if the problem is system wide or help troubleshoot why you have not yet received your award.
