KANSAS CITY, MO – MetroAir Virtual Airlines and Boeing [NYSE:BA] today announced an order for 5 787-8 Dreamliners, valued at $1.09 billion at list prices, the second largest ever Boeing order for the North American airline. The order was booked in February 2015 and was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries page.

With a range of 7,850 nautical miles and typical seating of 240 passengers, the 787-8 will complement MetroAir’s Boeing 757-200, Boeing 777-300ER, and Airbus A330-200/300 in the medium to long-range market.
“This order says a lot about the economic benefits of the 787,” said COO William Hogarth, regarding the range and payload capabilities of Boeing’s newest airliner, “The Dreamliner will allow us to tap into new long-haul markets.”
“The first Dreamliners will start to arrive in February 2016,” said Fleet Director Zak Winnick,”There will be a short testing period as pilots and check airmen are trained and then they will enter scheduled service.”
MetroAir executives also announced 10 additional 787-8s will be leased from AerCap in conjunction with the 5 firm orders. The total 15 air frames will enter scheduled service with MetroAir by the end of 2016.
