BIRMINGHAM, West Midlands – MetroAir Virtual Airlines announced today finalization of an agreement with Monarch Airlines to purchase two Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The aircraft were delivered to Monarch in the spring of 1999 and have been operated by the English low-cost and charter airline since delivery.
“We are happy to announce another successful purchase of additional Airbus A330’s,” said Fleet Director Zak Winnick, “This acquisition will help bolster our long haul fleet and allow us room for future intercontinental expansion.”
Monarch Airlines was sold in October 2014 and has announced the dissolution of their long-haul operations in order to focus on short-haul, low-cost, leisure routes.
The two aircraft will be ferried directly to the United States from Birmingham for repainting and interior refurbishing.
