PALM SPRINGS, CA – MetroAir Virtual Airlines announced direct flights to Ho Chi Minh City via Hanoi at Tuesdays’ meeting between leaders of the United States and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including President Obama.
Amid strengthening relations between the U.S. and Southeast Asia, MetroAir will fly daily to Vietnam from Los Angeles on the new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The U.S. is ASEAN’s third largest trading partner, with trade totalling $241.7 billion USD in 2013.
“We want to trade with the rest of the world and the largest partner is the U.S.,” said Vu Tu Thanh, US-ASEAN Business Council of Vietnam, “So that’s why we see the need to have stronger business ties on the other side of the world.”
Travel between the U.S. and Vietnam has historically been leisure-centric, but multiple business contracts on both ends of the flight and the delivery of the fuel efficient Boeing 787 make a nonstop viable for the first time in many years.
“The welcome mat has been rolled out in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and we couldn’t be happier to announce this new service,” spoke MetroAir CMO Anders Young, “The relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam can only get better from here on out.”
